We are following the news about the Coronavirus disease called COVID-19. This virus is expected to cause mild or no symptoms in the vast majority of people. Because it can cause serious illness in a small group of people with prior risk factors, we should take precautions to limit its spread. We are at MYMD Select are working with national, state, and local health systems to prepare for the COVID-19 virus’ arrival in our community. We are also working beyond those organizations for our member patients.
The Virus spreads from person to person with close prolonged contact (less than 6ft) usually via respiratory droplets through coughing and possibly from contact with these droplets on surfaces. It is very easy to spread and many folks have no idea when they have it. That is why it is getting transmitted very efficiently.
The incubation period - the time between exposure and the development of symptoms- is thought to be 2-14 days.
The Symptoms are usually mild with fever, cough, and runny nose. The great majority of people will experience “cold-like” symptoms lasting several days to a week and not progress to any other complaints. More severe symptoms include shortness of breath, prolonged fever, diarrhea, extreme fatigue.
If you have any of these symptoms we want to hear from you. Please call the office or better yet, use the Spruce App on your phone to let us know how you are doing and what we can do to help you. Because virtual care is very effective, we do ask that you call or Spruce ahead before coming to the office so that we can possibly save you a trip and protect the staff so we may remain open.
When you come to the office with similar symptoms to a cold, you may expect: To be placed in a separate room or asked to wait in your car prior to your visit. To be asked to wear a mask during your visit. Your provider or nurses need to wear a mask during your visit. Please do not just show up without calling us.
We encourage you to stay healthy. The best way to prevent the spread of this virus is simple common sense hygiene practices such as washing your hands, keep your hands away from your face, cough into an tissue or your elbow, and if you are sick stay home. We also encourage reducing your risk of severe illness by not smoking, getting adequate sleep, regular exercise, supporting your immune system, and following a healthy meal plan.
